General Tips

The first point to hoist aboard is that the York Ebor meeting is one of the most prestigious meetings in the annual racing calendar and offers fantastic prize money throughout the four days of racing. This means that it attracts the Top trainers and the best horses around and it is they that usually grab the headlines and the prizes.

Trainers To Follow

Top trainer from 2009 was the Newmarket based John Dunlop. He scored a three timer on the final day to give him four winners, but the top trainer at York overall in recent years is Richard Fahey, who surprisingly did not have a winner at the meeting in 2009. These two trainers should be added to the names of Stoute, Gosden, O’Brien, Cecil and Hills of trainers to follow at the meeting

Jockeys To Follow

Top jockey at the 2009 York Ebor meeting with four winners was Jimmy Fortune who has become somewhat of a course specialist, particularly so in the bigger races. For instance he has ridden the winner of the Great Voltigeur Stakes for three years running, twice for trainer, John Gosden. Fortune will be amongst the favourites to win Top Jockey again in 2010. Other jockeys with good records at the meeting include Jamie Spencer, Kieran Fallon and Frankie Dettori. But on the York course overall and in all meetings, its Ryan Moore who has the most winners over the last five seasons, current top five jockeys at York are:

  • Ryan Moore – 16 wins from 87 rides – 18% Strike Rate
  • Paul Hanagan – 13 wins from 135 rides - 10% Strike Rate
  • F Dettori – 13 wins from 63 rides – 21% Strike Rate
  • David Allen – 11 wins from 95 rides – 12% Strike Rate
  • Neil Callan – 10 wins from 118 rides – 8% Strike Rate

The most profitable jockey of these five is David Allen who has shown a return of 21.00 despite having only 11 winners on the course.
