Juddmonte International Stakes 2011 Betting - Twice Over Claims The Win

The International Stakes is a Group One and the richest and most prestigious race to take place at the York Ebor Meeting. It currently has prize money of over £600,000. It is often referred to as the Juddmonte Stakes and was formerly known as the Benson & Hedges Gold Cup. It has had many famous winners down the years, including Sea the Stars who won in 2009 and Rip Van Winkle who won well for Aidan O'Brien last season. However its most famous participant was a horse that failed to win as it was the only race that the great Brigadier Gerard lost, when he came second to Roberto in 1973. Race Preview

The betting is now starting to heat up this season with the Aidan O'Brien trained Await The Dawn the one being backed for the big race on Tuesday. There are a number of nice types set to take their chance though with the likes of Twice Over and Misty For Me also holding entries at this stage and a short price.

Race Review

It was a top class renewal of the International Stakes and as expected we saw Await The Dawn, Midday and Twice Over come to the fore over the final couple of furlongs. Await The Dawn quickly faded leaving Midday in charge and looking the likely winner, she just hung slightly though and was pipped by Twice Over who claimed a famous win.

A cracking race for the feature race of the day as Byword and Twice Over fought it out over the final two furlongs, Rip Van Winkle finished strongly though and he got up to pip the pair of them after needing every inch of the trip on the Knavesmire.
