Great Voltigeur Stakes

Great Voltigeur Stakes 2010

This is a Group 2 open to 3 year olds and raced over 1 mile and 4 furlongs. It is named after Voltigeur who was trained in Yorkshire and won the Epsom Derby and the St Leger in 1850.

The race continues to attract late developing or staying horses and is often a good guide for those who have the St Leger as their target. Lucarno for instance who won the race in 2007 went on to win the Doncaster Classic. Over the years the race has has had many top class winners, including Youmzain who has three times been second in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and Reference Point who won the Epsom Derby and the St Leger.

Over recent years, Top Jockey Jimmy Fortune seems to have made the race his own, winning for the last three years, his mount will be one to follow this year. Rewilding looks to be in with a gret chance this year for Godolphin, we haven't seen him since finishing third in the Derby in june and he should go close here.

Midas Touch is an interesting runner after a good season so far, he has done well for Aiden O'Brien recently and another good run here could see him head to the St Leger full of chances. Also Harris Tweed will be taking his chance in the race, he had been the long time favourite for the Ebor but will now go here after failing to get into the feature race.
