Gimcrack Stakes

Gimcrack Stakes

This is the tip two year old race for colts at the York Ebor meeting which is raced over 6 furlongs. It is named after a horse called Gimcrack, who won 27 races from 36 starts but not one took place at York. It has been on the racing calendar since 1846 and is raced on York Ebor day two.

Possibly its most famous winner, certainly over recent years is the Aidan O'Brien trained, Rock Of Gibraltar, who won the race in 2002. Rock Of Gibraltar who was owned by soccer manager, Sir Alex Ferguson went on to win the English and Irish 2000 Guineas. some of the leading fancies this year include Temple Meads who will be the mount of Jimmy Fortune and Casual Glimpse who will be hoping to add to the impressive list of two-year-old winners for Richard Hughes and Richard Hannon for this season.
