The York Dante Festival, which next takes place between, 12th - 14th May 2010, is a three day Festival who's races includes, the Dante Stakes, The Musidora Stakes and the famous Yorkshire Cup. It is all raced over the famous Knavesmire Racecourse

The Dante

The Group Two Dante Stakes is one of the leading Epsom Derby Trials and was won in 2009 by the Aidan O'Brien trained, Black Bear Island. Recent winners who have gone on to win the Derby are Authorized, who won in 2007, Motivator in 2005, North Light in 2004, Benny The Dip in 1997 and Erhaab in 1994.

The Musidora

The Musidora is a Group Three Oaks Trial for three year old fillies and takes place on the opening day of the Dante meeting. Those who have recently won the race and gone on to win the Epsom Oaks include 2009 winner, Sariska, who was the first one to do since Reams Of Verse succeeded in 1997. Sariska went on to win the Irish Oaks a few weeks later but was surprisingly beaten in the Yorkshire Oaks at the York Ebor meeting.

Yorkshire Cup

The Yorkshire Cup is a Group Two stayers race over 1 mile and six furlongs, which was won in 2009 by the Sir Michael Stoute trained Ask, who took her place amongst Europe's finest in the Arc De Triomphe. Its mmost famous winner however was the Henry Cecil trained Ardross, who won the race in both 1981 & 1982 and who also won the Ascot Gold Cup in those same two years.
